Case Description
I went to a dentist about 8 months ago in the valley who told me that I was going to need root canals on seven of my teeth. As a result I went back home to MI and got a second opinion from my dentist back home who has taken care of my teeth for years. I in fact needed one root canal, the other teeth were alive and well. I am newer to Las Vegas and need a freaking dentist I can trust. Please help.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Sorry to hear about your situation. It can be difficult to find the right dentist or physician these days. I would be happy to give you a no charge consult, come in and meet the staff, and get a feel for the office. We will take some intra-oral photos and look at your situation together- and come up with a comfortable plan.

I practice mostly in Utah, and a few days a month in Henderson. I focus on dental implants, cosmetic reconstruction and sedation dentistry. As I am only in your neighborhood a few days a month, I can highly recommend Dr. Ben Glick and Dr. Joshua Ignatowicz in Henderson. They are honest and caring. Their number is 702-432-9100. Call them-I know you will find them trustworthy. Yours for better health-Scott Hamblin DDS

Wow. As you found out there can be a big diffence in treatment among dentists. Some of that difference can be accounted for by planning for worst case scenarios (decay seen in x-rays is 2-dimensional and may not show full extent of cavity) or planning for esthetic treatment. Most dentists are ethical and take pride in their work, but you should never settle for a dentist that communicates poorly or leaves you feeling scammed.

I would be happy to meet you for a consultation at no charge. I graduated in 2002 from a dental school that emphasizes ethical decision making.

Yours truly,

Mark Edington DDS

There are many fine dentists in the Las Vegas Valley. Your best bet is to ask for referrals from friends or acquaintances who have been here in the valley for awhile. Another great source of information is local dental labs. They can tell you which dentists take pride in their work. Give the lab a call and relate to them your story. When you finally see a dentist let him or her know you are wary of being over treated and that you will probably get a second opinion. This is your best insurance that you will not be over treated again.
